Belmont is large enough to provide a wide array of programs, yet small enough that every individual counts.

The School of Music is a stimulating artistic community that fosters the study, performance and creation of music in a context of excellence and respect for diversity in musical styles.

Music students at Belmont receive excellent training which builds upon their existing skills and talents while providing opportunities to further explore and expand their musical interests and abilities. The School of Music’s alumni have helped to build a strong reputation nationwide for Belmont music graduates being talented, knowledgeable and well-trained musicians.  Belmont is also considered a pioneer in commercial music because it launched one of the first commercial music programs in the country. In all areas of musical study, the performer is the focal point of instruction. Integrated understanding is emphasized through numerous performing opportunities that put classroom learning into application.

Belmont’s School of Music is unique in that its wide array of majors offers the opportunity to prepare in traditional classical fields of music as well as in the world of popular music.

Music majors include Church Music, Composition, Musical Theatre, Music Education, Music Therapy, Music Theory, Music with an Outside Minor, Classical Performance, Piano Pedagogy and Commercial Music. Our majors prepare students for careers as performers, church musicians, school music teachers, music therapists, private studio teachers, college instructors, composers, arrangers, songwriters, studio musicians and any area of work involving creativity, people skills and organization.
