Situated in a comprehensive liberal arts university, the Department of Music at Miami University is an inclusive community of educators, performers, scholars, and creators passionate about the exploration and realization of our potential. We foster musical and intellectual skills, through both individual mentorship and group collaboration, inspiring students to become independent thinkers and innovators who discover their voices and reimagine themselves in our global society.
- Majors offered include Music Education, Performance, and Composition, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree with three possible tracks (Music Technology, Music in Culture, Performance). The Bachelor of Arts degree is well-suited for students wishing to double major in music and another field.
- Instrumental ensembles include Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Symphony Band, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and Steel Band. Choral Ensembles include mixed choir (Collegiate Chorale), women’s choir (Choraliers), and Men’s Glee Club.
- Staged productions include Miami Opera, Grand Night for Singing (celebrating the Great American Songbook), and musicals. The department offers the Music Theatre minor in collaboration with the Department of Theatre.
- Over 80% of our music majors receive a music scholarship.
