The Department of Music at Susquehanna University offers four degree options: the Bachelor of Music in Performance, Music Education, or Composition, plus a Bachelor of Arts in Music degree that makes it convenient to double major in Music and virtually any other discipline.
Music has been at the heart of Susquehanna since the university was founded more than 160 years ago. With a combination of conservatory-level musical training and a solid foundation in the liberal arts, we make multiple paths in music possible. Our students say that Susquehanna provides small-school advantages as well as big-school opportunities. The facilities in the Cunningham Center for Music and Art, filled with large windows and abundant natural light, are hard to beat. Our premier performance space, Stretansky Concert Hall, is a magnificent 320-seat venue designed specifically for music performance.
Individual attention is our hallmark—classes are small. You’ll receive intensive mentoring from our faculty, who bring extensive real-world experience, impressive credentials, and professional connections. You’ll also interact regularly with guest artists, composers, and leading industry professionals.
Cross-cultural experiences are essential to the liberal arts education and integral for success in today’s global society. You are encouraged to take a music-focused trip abroad through our award-winning Global Opportunities (GO) program, which requires all students to study away from campus, with 95% of them doing so overseas.
We invite you to join a community of musicians whose passion, discipline, and creativity inspire innovative learning and extraordinary performances. From the classroom to the recital hall and beyond, you’ll be prepared to achieve your personal and professional goals. Our seniors are regularly accepted to the finest graduate schools. For our Music Education graduates in particular, we see better than 95% job placement annually, even during economic downturns.
Susquehanna is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
