The Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver is widely recognized as a premier university music school with a long-standing tradition of excellence. A performance-focused school, Lamont is committed to delivering excellent, innovative musical training and the skills and experiences necessary to produce communicative artists. We provide curious, talented and ambitious students a multi-genre curriculum, including vibrant experiences in performance, creativity, scholarship and entrepreneurial skills, in preparation for a successful career as a musician in a changing environment.
Housed in the renowned Newman Center for the Performing Arts, Lamont students learn the value of performing on varied stages while in school. With more than 300 performances each year, including two fully staged productions and concerts by 25 large and small ensembles, Lamont students build a diverse portfolio during their time here. At any given time, Lamont comprises fewer than 300 students, allowing all graduate and undergraduate students the opportunity to perform throughout their academic careers. Outside Lamont, our students capitalize on the thriving music scene in Denver and the surrounding areas, performing regularly at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Dazzle Jazz club, and with professional organizations such as the Colorado Symphony, Denver Brass, and Opera Colorado. Once students graduate from Lamont, they continue performing as alumni around the world with such organizations as the Metropolitan Opera, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, our alumni continue their studies at other prestigious institutions, including the Eastman School of Music, University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, The Juilliard School and others.
